On Thursday, February 25, 2016, Colonia High School celebrated their 8th annual Junior/Senior Prom Fashion Show.
Colonia High School has dedicated a night to showing off the trends of the upcoming Prom season. Chemistry teacher, Mrs. Michelina Hernandez, has been involved with running the show for the past three years. When asked why she chose to be a part of the Prom Fashion Show Hernandez answered, “I like to be involved with the senior class.” Hernandez is also involved with other senior activities such as the Prom and selling ‘Honor Thy Senior’ t-shirts.
To be involved in the Prom Fashion Show you need to get consent from all of your current teachers. Your disciplinary record must also be clean throughout your years at Colonia High School. Grades should be kept up to make a good impression and extracurricular activities show you make an effort in the Colonia High community.
For the past eight years Ducoff’s Tuxedos at 1260 Saint Georges Ave in Avenel, New Jersey has provided tuxedos for all of the male models in the show. The owner of Ducoff’s, Joe Carlucci an Alumni of Colonia High School, has been very generous in giving back to his community for this fun event. Will Arias, a Colonia High School senior and Prom Fashion Show participant stated, “Ducoff’s did a very good job with the fittings. It was quick and easy.” During the week, Ducoff’s hours are 11AM-8:30PM but you can also head to their website for additional hours.
Prom season is all about the dresses and Windsor was the right place to go for our models. All of the female models went to Windsor located on the lower level of Woodbridge Center Mall, where they tried on many dresses until they found the perfect one for them. Each year Windsor allows Colonia High to borrow the dresses for the show. Show support for their help by stopping by for your Prom fashion needs.
The Prom Fashion Show was not only for showing off the latest trends, it also offered an array of vendors for all Prom needs. Local businesses such as Nail Studio and Loren Roberts Salon gave out special deals and organized raffles that could be won by purchasing tickets. Items raffled off included free Prom and Cotillion Bids, tanning sessions, manicures, tuxedo rentals and limousine rentals all donated by local companies. Students even had musical performances and one student gave a heart warming promposal.

Senior class treasurer, Nancy Colorado became a part of the Prom Fashion Show to have a fun experience with friends before she heads off to college. For most high school seniors they look at Prom in the same way. Shortly after Prom comes graduation, where everyone says their goodbyes as they head off into their separate lives. Events like these bring classmates together and create long lasting memories.
